School youth from Wschowa visiting Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center

At the beginning of the previous week (monday, March 22nd, 2010) students interested in computer science technologies from the technical collage from Wschowa visited Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center. It was unusual possibility for them to see PSNC servers room and listen to lectures describing PSNC activities, including those related to digital libraries.

During the visit, PSNC Digital Libraries Team presented digital libraries basics and related information. During the lecture students had an opportunity to share their thoughts and remarks and ask questions concerning specific topics. Students paid a special attention to the old photos and crest of Wschowa city, which are available in Polish digital libraries. They were also eager to see the WaybackMarchine from the InternetArchive.org portal.

Promotion of the digital libraries among children and youth is one of the activities lead by PSNC Digital Libraries Team. Such events have a great meaning in terms of the current unsatisfactory level of awarness of digital libraries existence among young people. We hope that our participation in initiatives such as XI Festival of Science and Art and Researchers’ Night will increase the awareness of young people in scope of the digital libraries and will urge them to discover treasures of Polish and European cultural heritage.
